In the aftermath of the political crisis resolution meeting summoned by President Bola Tinubu, Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, has officially confirmed that Governor Siminialayi Fubara appended his signature to the agreement document.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Johnson asserted the authenticity of Fubara’s signature on the resolution document, emphasizing the governor’s unwavering commitment to the peace process.
“There is nothing to doubt. We have gone beyond the issue of who signed and who didn’t sign,” Johnson stated.
“Mr. Governor is a stickler for the rules. If His Excellency, the President, has intervened, he (Fubara) is not a man of perfidy. He will not say something and do the other.”
While addressing concerns about the governor’s willingness to implement the agreement, Johnson affirmed Fubara’s integrity and assured that concrete steps toward peace would be evident in the coming hours.
“In the next couple of hours, I will be unveiling some of the approvals His Excellency has already given as an indication that he is prepared for peace,” Johnson added.
Responding to queries about the governor’s demeanor during the resolution meeting, Johnson highlighted Fubara’s strength, noting that agreeing to the decisions was a demonstration of statesmanship rather than weakness.
The confirmation of Governor Fubara’s commitment to the peace agreement is expected to bring a new phase of cooperation and dialogue in the Rivers State political landscape, fostering an atmosphere conducive to stability and progress.
