Rivers Needs Peace, Unity for Development, Says Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said peace remains the foundation for unity, growth, and development in the state.

Speaking on Sunday, September 21, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Opobo Town, his first public worship since his reinstatement, Fubara urged the church and people of Rivers to continue praying for his administration.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor said prayers had been his source of strength and would remain vital as he works to fulfil his mandate.

He explained that the visit was a quiet thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness, adding, “I am here together with my wife this first Sunday after the suspension of the state of emergency.

“We cannot thank God enough as a family. Our being here is private; we came simply to worship in our home church.

“When my story ends, this church will lead me to my next journey. So, it is important that I come here to say thank you quietly before the Almighty God for what He has done, what He is doing, and what He will continue to do, not just for me and my family, but for this State and Nigeria.”

Fubara thanked the people of Opobo for years of prayers on his behalf, comparing their intercession to deposits in a bank whose rewards manifest in due season.

Underscoring the value of peace, he said, “The greatest gift anyone can wish for is peace. Peace in the home prevents sickness and worry. Peace in the community attracts development. Peace within yourself promotes good health.

“Truly, peace is the most important thing. I urge everyone to hold peace dear as a symbol of unity and a foundation for the progress of our dear state.”

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to serving Rivers people and called for continued support and prayers as his administration embarks on a renewed path.

The service, part of the 2025 Harvest of Divine Possibilities and Thanksgiving, featured prayers led by Venerable Emmanuel Nwuju for the First Family, the government, and the peace of Rivers and Nigeria.

Fubara attended with his wife, Lady Valerie Fubara, Chief of Staff Dr. Edison Ehie, and several political stakeholders. Local government officials, including Chairman James A. James and Vice Chairman Gladys Daniel Legg-Jack, were also present.
