Rivers Partners with Companies for $300m Waste-to-Wealth Project

The Rivers State Government has signed a $300 million agreement with Omene Group and Germany’s Intec Group to launch an innovative waste-to-wealth project.

This initiative aims to turn waste into valuable resources, create jobs, boost the economy, and provide cleaner energy for the state.

At the signing event, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, represented by Attorney General Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN, explained the project’s goals.

“Rivers State has invested heavily in waste collection and disposal with minimal returns,” he said.

“This project signals a major shift, turning a challenge into a vital resource that will create jobs, enhance our economy, and address our waste management concerns.”

The project, which will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve waste management, aims to generate 200 megawatts of electricity and capture 20 tons of carbon credits that can be traded for additional funds. It also includes smart e-mobility infrastructure and AI-driven waste processing systems.

Otumba Prince Franklin Omene, CEO of Omene Group, shared that the Rivers State Economic and Investment Summit in May laid the foundation for this collaboration.

The project is expected to be a cost-free investment for the government, with Intec Group’s representative, Srinibach Dora Tepal, adding that it’s “a smart, sustainable model for development, built to drive substantial and enduring progress.”

This partnership sets Rivers State on a new path, transforming waste management into an economic and environmental opportunity for Nigeria.
