Authorities in Nigeria’s Rivers State have denied reports that 10,000 new workers are to be recruited into the state’s civil service.
The clarification came after social media posts claimed that the Sole Administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retired), had authorised the large-scale hiring.
The reports further alleged that an application portal would go live at midnight on Sunday, 13 April.
However, the acting Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. Inyingi Brown, dismissed the claim as “entirely false” in a statement issued on Thursday.
Dr. Brown advised the public to disregard the circulating message, which was falsely attributed to the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Worika.

“The public is urged to ignore the fake announcement,” the statement said, adding that any official employment information would be communicated through the state’s Civil Service Commission.
The administration emphasised that official job recruitment announcements would not be disseminated through unofficial online channels.
This is the latest in a series of viral misinformation incidents affecting state institutions in Nigeria.
