RoLAC commends CPN over child protections in Lagos

The British Council and European Union have lauded the efforts of Child Protection Network (CPN) members in Lagos State for ensuring adequate protection of children in the state.

The Rule of Law Anti-Corruption (RoLAC), a European Union funded programme, managed by the British Council is supporting CPN to ensure the protection of the right of children among other things.

Speaking after a programme in Lagos, the Lagos State Coordinator of RoLAC, Mrs Ajibola Ijimakinwa, said data received from CPN showed that the network doing a great job to protect the rights of children in Lagos.

“CPN has done quite a lot. Every quarter we do receive data from them regarding the number of cases they have been able to attend to and I can say last quarter we got about 103 cases they handled that involved the children,” Abimbola said.

On the meeting with CPN members Ajibola said, “This meeting is to capture specific feedback that will help RoLAC write a comprehensive document on the impact of our support and what we achieved, which the next programme can build on. It is A feedback session to hear from our partners on what they have done in terms of change, impacts and results that have been achieved, and what we at RoLAC could have done differently in supporting their projects. What are the things that a new programme should seek out to support?

“We also listen to some of the challenges they might have had on the field and see what we can do to ensure we do not have those challenges at the new programme. It’s basically a lesson learning session.”

On her part, a gender and development consultant to RoLAC, CPN, Chibogu Obinwa said the child protection group had penetrated local governments in Lagos state to intimate them to know the right of every child as well to protect them.

“They have made a lot of impact, especially at the local government level so, it’s more like decentralising child protection work.

“At the local government level, they are building their capacity to understand the Child rights Law so that they will be able to address cases coming to their table.”

Speaking also, the CPN state coordinator, Aderonke Oyelakin, said Learning Lessons and Sustainability Series was a good one from RoLAC and CPN as the meeting captured sincere feedbacks on the impact of their support and what CPN achieved through their support.”

“The one-day meeting with CPN members had 15 participants altogether, with past executives, LG coordinators, present executives members and other stakeholders in CPN in attendance.

“The objectives of the meeting were achieved. We provided RoLAC with information and data on interventions implemented to improve access to justice for children in the state.

It was a great opportunity to also share our prospects, what we would like the new programme under the British Council to support in the coming years.”
