The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has formally declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, positioning the transport union among the early organized groups backing the president’s re‑election bid.
The endorsement was announced on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the union’s national headquarters in Abuja.
RTEAN National President Musa Maitakobi said the union’s decision followed consultations across its national, zonal, and state structures.
He confirmed that members nationwide have been urged to begin mobilization in support of Tinubu’s campaign.

Maitakobi cited the administration’s ongoing economic and infrastructural reforms, particularly in the transport sector, as key reasons for the endorsement, describing them as having “repositioned the industry as a strategic pillar of national development.”
The association also called for the establishment of a specialised Bank of Transportation to provide affordable financing for operators, support fleet renewal, and enhance safety infrastructure, measures the union said would strengthen the sector and benefit the national economy.
RTEAN said it will leverage its networks in all 774 local government areas to drive grassroots support for Tinubu, projecting a significant contribution to voter mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
The endorsement places RTEAN among several political, labour, and interest organizations that have begun positioning ahead of the 2027 general election, highlighting early strategic alignments in the nation’s political landscape.
