Russia Taunts France, UK Over Ukraine Troop Plans

Russia has taken a bold swipe at France and the United Kingdom over their alleged plans to send troops into Ukraine. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, during a briefing on the 17th of April, 2025, slammed the idea of deploying a multinational peacekeeping force in Ukraine as “insane.”

She pointed out that the initiative hasn’t gained much traction within the European Union, with France and the U.K. still struggling to pull in support from their EU allies.

Zakharova stressed that the entire operation hinges on U.S. support, which so far hasn’t been forthcoming.

“Judging by the current discussions, Washington still has no intention of becoming involved in such an adventure.

“It seems to be realistically assessing where all this could lead,” she added.

Switching focus to the Palm Sunday missile strike, Zakharova didn’t hold back.

She blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for what happened.

She claimed Russian forces aimed at a site in Sumy where Ukraine’s command staff was meeting.

According to her, Zelensky responded by firing Volodymyr Artyukh, the head of Sumy’s military administration, and “confirmed the charges against him.”
