Department of State Security Service has arrested a member of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, for allegedly providing shelter for fleeing cult groups involved in recent violence in Sagamu area of Ogun State.
Recall that two cult groups – Eiye and Aiye were involved in a supremacy battle in Sagamu, where some people died and others sustained injuries.
This forced the state government to place a curfew in Sagamu area as DSS embarked on investigation to unravel the culprits behind the violence and arrest run away members among which were alleged to be hiding in the lawmakers resident in the area.
The member, representing Sagamu State Constituency (1), Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, was alleged to have provided shelter to the fleeing cultists.
The team of security operatives, in a sting operation after a tip-off, arrested the lawmaker and the suspects in hiding in his house on Wednesday
Those arrested, according to sources, include Damilare Bello Mohammed aka DRE, Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya and Tobi Owoade.
They are presently undergoing interrogation at the Department of State Service (DSS) and dangerous weapons including guns, were recovered from the suspects.
It would be recalled that Hon. Bello was arrested by the DSS for masterminding the violent protest that took place in February this year in Sagamu over the naira redesign policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
During the protest, irate youths vandalised about 10 banks and other public infrastructures.
