Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has lifted the restriction on human rights lawyer Festus Ogun on his official X handle, following a lawsuit filed against him over the alleged blocking.
Ogun, a constitutional lawyer and activist, had dragged the governor before the Federal High Court in Lagos, claiming the action infringed on his fundamental rights to freedom of expression and access to information as guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution.
He argued that being blocked by a public official on a platform used to disseminate government information amounted to a violation of citizens’ rights.
The governor’s decision to unblock him comes while the matter is still before the court.

Ogun confirmed the development on Saturday, noting that the move vindicated his stance that no public officeholder should deny citizens access to government communication channels.
The case has sparked debate on the digital rights of Nigerians, with legal analysts observing that the outcome could set a precedent on whether public officials may lawfully block citizens on social media platforms used for governance.
It remains unclear whether the governor’s action will influence the pending suit.
