Authorities in Anambra State have uncovered and destroyed a bomb-making facility during a security sweep on a suspected secessionist base in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area.
The operation, which took place on Saturday, was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday, May 25, by the spokesperson of the state police command, Tochukwu Ikenga.
He noted that the location was one of the group’s last remaining fortified camps that had remained inaccessible for over two years.
Ikenga stated, “The joint security team comprising the police, military and operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Service on May 24, 2025, extended offensive operations to a criminal hideout at Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.”
He revealed that the team successfully destroyed the bomb workshop and neutralised multiple locally fabricated explosive devices.
“During the operation, a local bomb factory was destroyed, while assorted locally made improvised explosive devices were recovered and demobilised.

“The criminal camp is one of the last strongholds of the secessionist group that was impregnable for over two years which the hoodlums used to wreck havoc in the state.”
Ikenga added that an explosive hidden around the premises went off during the raid, damaging part of the road.
“It is pertinent to report that one of the IEDs buried around the Camp exploded during the onslaught and created a destructive impact on the road.
“The IED acted as a shield to prevent the Joint Forces from accessing the facility. Meanwhile, no life was lost during the operation.”
He emphasised that security forces would continue operations in the area to eliminate remaining threats and ensure lasting peace.
The clearance effort is part of a broader strategy to reclaim volatile regions from armed groups disrupting peace in the state.
