The Electric Motor Vehicle (EMV) initiative under the Kogi Central Constituency Development Programme has officially resumed operations after completing all regulatory and compliance requirements, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed in Abuja on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
The programme, temporarily suspended in late 2025, underwent a thorough review to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and establish a strong governance framework for sustainability.
During the pause, the EMV management company was formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, and operational guidelines were finalized.
Technicians and electricians received intensive training to operate and maintain the electric and solar-powered tricycles central to the initiative, ensuring efficiency, safety, and long-term sustainability.
With regulatory approval secured, deployment of the locally assembled vehicles will begin immediately, enabling beneficiaries particularly women and youths to start commercial operations.
Akpoti-Uduaghan described the EMV project as a strategic intervention aimed at economic empowerment and environmental sustainability.
The initiative is expected to lower transportation costs and provide steady income opportunities across Kogi Central.

To guarantee long-term impact, a Trust Fund has been established to manage the EMV programme alongside other constituency assets, including the SNAU Foundation Maternity Centre and modern markets in Okene and Ihima.
The fund is designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and equitable access.
Applications are now open for the Electric Motor Vehicle Technical Training Programme under the Operate-and-Own Model, which will train 100 beneficiaries in vehicle operation and maintenance.
Graduates will receive hands-on training and the opportunity to own and operate the vehicles, promoting entrepreneurship and clean-energy job creation.
