Senate Begins Public Hearing on Tax Reform Bills

The Nigerian Senate has commenced a two-day public hearing on proposed tax reform bills, gathering key stakeholders from the country’s economic and financial sectors to deliberate on the future of Nigeria’s tax system.

Among those in attendance are the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, members of the Federal Executive Council, the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and other high-ranking officials.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, assured that the hearing would be conducted transparently, with national interest at the forefront.

He emphasized that the review aims to reform Nigeria’s tax laws in response to prevailing economic realities.

The proposed reforms seek to promote equity, fairness, and inclusivity while eliminating inefficiencies in existing tax policies.

The initiative is expected to create a more effective tax system that supports economic growth and national prosperity.
