The Senate on Thursday urged President Bola Tinubu to remove the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Magaji, over his repeated failure to appear before its Committee on Finance.
The resolution followed a motion raised by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu during a session with members of the President’s economic team.
Lawmakers expressed frustration over Magaji’s absence, noting that the registrar-general had consistently avoided invitations to account for the commission’s activities, particularly regarding revenue matters.
“Since I came to the Senate, this CAC man has always given excuses that he is in the Villa or going to London. He is not above the law,” Kalu said, accusing the registrar-general of ignoring legislative oversight.
Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, corroborated the concerns, highlighting unresolved discrepancies in the reconciliation of the commission’s revenues.

He said Magaji often sent junior officers in his place, which the committee deemed unacceptable.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole proposed withholding approval of the CAC’s 2026 budget until the registrar-general personally appeared before the committee.
He also suggested restricting the commission from spending its internally generated revenue without National Assembly approval.
The motion urging the President to remove Magaji was put to a voice vote and adopted, reflecting the Senate’s renewed assertiveness in exercising its constitutional oversight over revenue-generating agencies.
The CAC regulates companies and business registrations in Nigeria and is a significant contributor to non-oil revenue, making transparency and accountability central to its operations.
