Senate confirms ministerial nominee who slumped during screening, two others

Senate has confirmed the Kaduna State nominee, Abbas Balarabe, who fainted during his screening on Wednesday.

Senate also confirmed Dr. Jamila Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande, who were nominated as Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths, respectively.

Earlier in the Senate, there was commotion when the nominee who replaced former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, suddenly collapsed during his screening on Wednesday.

Barely 15 minutes into his screening at the Senate plenary, Balarabe, who was the second nominee to undergo screening after Ibrahim, had just finished sharing his experiences when the incident occurred.

Kaduna South Senator, Sunday Kaltung, was praising Balarabe’s administrative competence when the nominee standing on the podium suddenly slumped.

After presenting his profile to the senators, Balarabe received an endorsement from the Kaduna lawmaker, who stated that all three senators from the state gave validation to his nomination.

Kaltung was interrupted when Senate President Godswill Akpabio shouted, “Bring water and sugar. Call Dr. Musa.”

Akpabio immediately ordered journalists and cameramen to stop recording and leave the Senate chamber.

The nominee was then rushed to the National Assembly clinic.

Senate resumed after about a 45-minute break and then confirmed the three nominees.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday sent the names of the nominees that were read by the Senate.
