Senate has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a security guard by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar.
Umar was caught on video as he alighted from his car at Banex Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja, appearing to hit a security guard for telling him not to park in the wrong space.
The 22-year-old security guard, Clement Sagwak, had petitioned the Senate through the senator representing his Plateau North Senatorial District, Istifanus Gyang.
Gyang, who read the petition before the Senate on Tuesday, said Sagwak was seeking justice for the assault he suffered while carrying out his lawful duty at the plaza.
The lawmaker said the petitioner alleged that the CCT chairman assaulted him, ordered him to go on his knees and also slapped him.
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, directed the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions headed by Senator Ayo Akinyelure to investigate the matter and report back in four weeks.
The Senate’s decision to probe the incident was based on the fact that the petitioner has yet to seek legal redress in court.
Although the the police in the Federal Capital Territory earlier vowed to ensure “fairness and professionalism” in investigating the case, it has continued to hold back on the case.
