Senator Hassan succeeds impeached Gusau as new Zamfara deputy gov

Senator Muhammad Hassan Nasiha has emerged as the new deputy governor of Zamfara State.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) dominated Zamfara State House of Assembly screened and confirmed Hassan as the state’s new deputy governor on Wednesday, after impeaching the former deputy governor of the state, Mahdi Gusau, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member.

Hassan’s confirmation came after the House Speaker Nasiru Mua’zu, read a letter from Governor Bello Matawalle, nominating Hassan as his deputy.

Before his new office, Senator Hassan represented Zamfara Central Senatorial district.

The state assembly impeached Gusau after receiving the report of a committee set up by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Kulu Aliyu, to probe allegations levelled against the former deputy governor.

The seven-man panel was led by Retired Justice Halidu Soba and had submitted its report to the State House of Assembly complex in Gusau, the state capital.

Among other allegations, Gusau was said to have committed offenses bordering on gross misconduct, financial fraud, and abuse of office.
