The President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has declared Monday a paid public holiday across the country in celebration of the nation’s triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In an official announcement on Sunday, President Faye said the decision was taken to allow citizens to join in nationwide celebrations and to honour the Senegalese national team for their historic achievement on the continental stage.
The paid holiday will see public offices, schools, and most businesses close as fans take to the streets to celebrate the AFCON victory, which has sparked scenes of jubilation across Dakar and other major cities.

President Faye praised the players, coaching crew, and officials for their discipline, resilience, and commitment, describing the victory as a moment of unity and national pride for Senegal.

Celebrations are expected to continue throughout Monday, with receptions and victory parades planned in honour of the team.
