The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has raised concerns over the expenditure of ₦95.415 billion by the Federal Ministry of Power in 2022 without supporting documents or adequate records.
SERAP disclosed this on Wednesday as part of its “Auditor-General Watch” series, citing findings attributed to the Auditor-General of the Federation.
According to the organisation, the absence of supporting documentation makes it difficult to independently verify how the ₦95.4 billion was spent and whether the expenditure complied with financial regulations.
SERAP called on relevant authorities to urgently investigate the expenditure and determine what the money was used for, who authorised the spending and why the necessary supporting documents were unavailable.
The organisation also urged authorities to establish whether the goods, works or services for which the funds were reportedly spent were actually delivered.

It said any funds found to have been improperly spent or that cannot be satisfactorily accounted for should be recovered, with appropriate action taken against those responsible.
SERAP stressed that public expenditure must be properly documented and capable of independent verification, warning that ₦95.4 billion should not disappear from the public audit trail without accountability.
The organisation said it would continue to publish more findings from the Auditor-General’s report as part of its campaign for greater transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.
