A building collapsed in the early hours of Thursday along Adeniji Adele Road in the Isale Eko area of Lagos Island, leaving several persons injured and hospitalised.
The incident, which occurred overnight, prompted an immediate response from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigerian Police Force, and other emergency rescue agencies.
According to a statement shared via LASTMA’s verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, multiple victims who were trapped under the rubble were rescued and quickly transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
“There is a report of an overnight collapsed building along Adeniji Adele Road, at Isale Eko. LASTMA personnel, other emergency responders and Men of the Nigerian Police Force are all on ground. Traffic flow is currently not affected along the corridor as our personnel are firmly at the location for traffic monitoring. Victims rescued from the building have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” the agency posted.
While the number of casualties remains unconfirmed at the time of reporting, ongoing search-and-rescue efforts are being conducted with the building site cordoned off for safety.

To manage traffic around the affected area, LASTMA announced that diversions have been put in place. “Our officials have diverted traffic from Zenith back through Oba’s Palace to make use of Enu Owa to their various destinations,” the agency stated.
Although the cause of the collapse has yet to be officially determined, experts and local residents have long expressed concerns about structural integrity and the age of buildings in the densely populated Lagos Island area.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the urgent need for stricter enforcement of building regulations and infrastructure audits in older parts of the city. Emergency responders continue operations at the scene as investigations unfold.
