Prominent businessman and socialite, Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has been appointed South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement.
Iyiegbu disclosed the appointment in a post on his official Instagram page on Tuesday, stating that the certificate of appointment was presented to him by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, Seyi Tinubu paid him a visit at his residence on Monday night, during which they also held discussions on national issues.
“Last night, my long-time friend and brother, Seyi Tinubu, paid me a visit at my home. We held great conversations about everything,” Iyiegbu wrote.
Reacting to the mixed reactions that followed his appointment, the Anambra-born entrepreneur defended his decision to accept the role, saying meaningful change could only be achieved through active participation rather than isolation.
“I’m fully aware of the varied reactions it has sparked. My belief remains firm: lasting change comes from constructive engagement, not standing apart,” he said.
Iyiegbu emphasised that his new position would not compromise his commitment to integrity, community development and responsible leadership, adding that influence was limited when exercised from the outside.

Describing President Tinubu as “a City Boy and a man of commerce,” he expressed his determination to promote inclusivity in the discharge of his duties.
“All of us need all of us in order to achieve our national aspirations, and I am committed to carrying every Nigerian along in all that I do,” he stated.
He also called for tolerance of differing opinions and urged Nigerians to focus on creating tangible value for national development, while thanking supporters for their goodwill and pledging to work towards a more inclusive future.
