Big names are making headlines as the Nigerian government moves to fill long-vacant ambassadorial posts.
“Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani; ex-presidential aide, Reno Omokri; and former governors of Abia and Enugu States, Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi,” are among those said to have been nominated for ambassadorial roles.
“Fola Adeola, founder of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc; Femi Pedro; and Femi Fani-Kayode” also reportedly made the list.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has begun screening the nominees. An appointee, who asked not to be named, confirmed the development to Vanguard on the 6th of April, 2025.
So far, there’s no official list only whispers.
A source from the presidency explained that, “When those appointed have cleared security checks, we will release the list. Only those who have been cleared are announced.

The process is ongoing. I know we should have a list before the end of this month.”
This comes after Nigeria’s ambassadors were recalled last year, leaving several diplomatic seats empty.
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, earlier said the delay was intentional.
According to him, the nomination process must be airtight before any list reaches the National Assembly.
