Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave approved by President Bola Tinubu, marking his first official break since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
According to the statement, the leave will allow the Vice President to devote time to study, reflection and a review of the administration’s ongoing programmes and policy priorities.
Nkwocha said the period would also enable Shettima to strengthen his understanding of emerging national and global issues while preparing for future responsibilities.
“Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, the Vice President has remained actively engaged in the coordination and supervision of several strategic government initiatives,” the statement said.
It noted that Shettima has played key roles in areas including economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
The presidential aide also highlighted the Vice President’s role as chairman of the National Economic Council, which brings together state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior government officials to deliberate on policies affecting the economy and the welfare of Nigerians.
Nkwocha further stated that Shettima has represented President Tinubu at several international and regional events, where he advanced Nigeria’s position on issues relating to economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.
He added that the Vice President has remained committed to supporting the administration’s efforts to build a more secure, productive and prosperous nation.
The statement said Shettima is expected to resume official duties after the completion of the leave period.
