In a diplomatic plea, Somali Ambassador to Nigeria, Jamal Mohammed Barrow, has urged the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to assist in making Nigeria a second home for Somalians.
During a courtesy visit on Thursday, Ambassador Barrow highlighted the historical ties between the two nations and expressed Somalia’s admiration for Nigeria as a role model.
Ambassador Barrow disclosed that Somalia, in its effort to recover from the aftermath of armed conflicts, has sought approval for a land to build its Chancery in Abuja for the past three years without success. He emphasized the desire to deepen cooperation between the capital cities and strengthen the longstanding friendship.
“We want Nigeria to be our second home,” Barrow stated, seeking Wike’s intervention in approving the Chancery land.
In response, Minister Wike assured immediate attention to the land application file, pledging ministerial approval to facilitate the establishment of the Somalian Chancery in Abuja.
“We are here to make things comfortable for our guests. Whatever you think that FCT will do, do not hesitate to let us know. We are always willing to cooperate with our guests, particularly foreign missions,” Wike affirmed, assuring swift action on the approval process. “I can assure you that after this discussion, I will call for the file so that you can have it approved and start building your Chancery,” he added.
