South East Reps Call for Oloyede’s Resignation Over JAMB Glitches

The South East Caucus of the House of Representatives has called for the immediate resignation of the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.

They say the recent conduct of the 2025 UTME represents a “catastrophic institutional failure.”

Caucus leader Igariwey Enwo issued a strong-worded statement on the 19th of May, 2025.

He condemned the Board for technical errors that affected nearly 380,000 candidates, now forced to resit the exam.

Key concerns raised include:
• JAMB’s poor communication with candidates
• Clashes between the rescheduled UTME and ongoing WAEC exams
• Less than 48 hours’ notice given for the retake
• Inadequate response from the exam body
The lawmakers demanded:
• Total cancellation of the 2025 UTME
• A new date after WAEC and NECO exams
• Suspension of officials in charge of JAMB’s digital and logistics units

According to them, “Over the past week, we have exercised restraint, hoping that JAMB would provide effective remedial measures to address what is clearly a catastrophic institutional failure one that has severely shaken public trust and the confidence of students and their families nationwide.”

They stressed that all five South Eastern states were directly affected by what they described as “score distortions.”

The caucus acknowledged Prof. Oloyede’s public admission of failure but described JAMB’s response as falling “drastically short” of expectations.
They accused the board of a “knee-jerk, fire-brigade approach.”

Students sitting for WAEC were reportedly given under 48 hours to take the new UTME, leading to low attendance and direct clashes with WAEC papers.

The lawmakers concluded that an apology isn’t enough.

“His resignation would allow for a thorough, independent review of the failure and restore public confidence in the examination body.”
