Omoyele Sowore, activist and former presidential candidate, has recounted how protesters were allegedly attacked during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in Abuja.
Reports earlier indicated that security agents fired live rounds and tear gas at demonstrators on Monday morning.
In an interview with Channels TV, Sowore stated that the protesters did not provoke the security personnel before the attack occurred.
He confirmed that Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and Kanu’s brother were both beaten and taken into custody by the police.
Sharing details of the incident, Sowore said, “We started the protest in front of the Transcop hotel and security operatives came, army, police, civil defence, I started telling them that we are not enemies that the protest is not about them, then suddenly, they started shooting at us with tear gas and some live bullets were fired.

“Luckily, nobody was hit by the bullets but they were just shooting all around us. Eventually, they arrested some people. I heard that Nnamdi Kanu’s brother was arrested and beaten.
“The lawyer, Ejimakor was also arrested and beaten before they were taken to the FCT command.
“It was an unprovoked attack from the police force.”
