Sowore Decries Broken Justice System After Release From Nigerian Prison

Human rights activist and convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the state of Nigeria’s justice system following his release from prison on Monday.

In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle shortly after regaining his freedom, Sowore expressed deep anguish over the plight of those still incarcerated unjustly across the country.

“There’s nothing more painful than seeing innocent people left behind in prison,” he wrote. “When I was being released today, I felt guilt because I left behind children or adults whose only ‘crime’ is being poor or voiceless while the powerful walk free. It’s a brutal reminder that justice in Nigeria is often broken and sold.”

Sowore lamented that wrongful imprisonment continues to rob innocent citizens of their time, hope, and dignity, stressing that the struggle for justice must remain relentless.

“The fight for justice must never stop,” he declared, using the hashtag #RevolutionNow to reinforce his ongoing campaign for systemic reform.

Sowore, a vocal critic of government corruption and abuse of power, has been repeatedly detained over his activism and criticism of the authorities. His latest statement adds to growing calls for comprehensive reform of Nigeria’s criminal justice system, which has long been plagued by allegations of corruption, delayed trials, and overcrowded prisons.
