Sowore Escorts Lagos Corper to NYSC Office After Viral Video

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has expressed solidarity with Ushie Rita Uguamaye, an NYSC member who has come under scrutiny for her viral video criticising President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a video shared on X on Monday, March 17, Sowore stated that he had met with Uguamaye in Lagos and would accompany her to the NYSC Local Government Inspector’s office with a team of lawyers.

“The journey with youth Corper, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, has commenced in Lagos,” Sowore wrote.

“She is scheduled to appear before the LGI (Local Government Inspector) today and we will escort her to their offices. We are all en route with attorneys.”

However, in a subsequent post on X, Sowore claimed the LGI official had failed to show up.

Uguamaye’s video, originally posted on TikTok, highlighted her frustration with Nigeria’s worsening economic situation and included strong criticism of Tinubu’s leadership. Following the video’s widespread attention, she claimed to have received threats.

She later shared an NYSC notice summoning her to report at the Eti Osa 3 Local Government Inspector’s office on Monday at 10:00 a.m.

Sowore’s involvement has intensified public debate, drawing more attention to the situation and raising concerns about free speech and potential repercussions from the NYSC or other authorities.

The NYSC has not yet issued a statement on the matter.
