Popular activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has confirmed that singer and social media sensation, Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, is currently in police custody in Abuja.
Adeyanju revealed that Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos last Friday and later transferred to Abuja, where he has been detained.
Adeyanju disclosed the arrest in a post on his X account on Tuesday, saying, “We just spent the last 30 minutes with Speed Darlington, and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos Friday last week, moved around, and eventually brought to Abuja. He has been in detention since then. Petition against him was written by Burna Boy, we can confirm.”
He did not, however, provide further details on the complaint.
The news comes after social media influencer Constance Nwogu raised concerns about Speed Darlington’s whereabouts on Monday, stating that he had been unreachable for three days.
Nwogu noted that his sudden absence from social media was unusual, adding, “It has come to our notice that our man Speed Darlington (Akpi) has been missing for days now (three days now).”
Checks showed that Speed Darlington’s last post on YouTube was made on October 4, while his last Instagram post was nearly a month ago, on September 8, though he was known for frequently going live on the platform.
Nwogu suggested that the singer’s disappearance might be linked to a video in which Speed Darlington questioned the legitimacy of Burna Boy’s Grammy win and allegedly linked the artist to embattled musician Sean Combs (P Diddy).
Meanwhile, Burna Boy appeared to respond to the situation on Tuesday with a cryptic post on X, writing, “Who’s missing?” Although it was unclear whether he was referring to Speed Darlington.
Nwogu urged the public to come forward with any information regarding Speed Darlington’s whereabouts, promising to keep the public updated as new details emerge.
As of press time, the Nigerian Police have not issued any official statement on the matter.
