Tottenham Hotspur moved themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone on Sunday after a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park, a result that could prove crucial in their fight for survival this season.
Villa struck first through Conor Gallagher, who opened the scoring early after capitalising on a loose defensive clearance to give the hosts a 1–0 advantage.
The midfielder’s finish marked his first Premier League goal since his move from Atlético Madrid in January.
But Spurs responded with intensity and purpose, growing into the game as Villa rotated heavily ahead of their Europa League semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham’s pressure eventually told before the break when Richarlison powered home to level the match.

Richarlison was at the heart of Spurs’ attacking threat, and his goal turned the momentum firmly in favour of the visitors as they began to dominate possession and territory.
Spurs, under manager Roberto De Zerbi, continued to push forward after the restart, exploiting a disjointed Villa side led by Unai Emery, who made several changes to his lineup to prioritise European commitments.
The decisive moment arrived as Tottenham capitalised on sustained pressure, completing the comeback to take a 2–1 lead that they would not relinquish. Villa did manage a late response through Emiliano Buendía in stoppage time, but it proved only a consolation.
For Spurs, the victory marks a significant turnaround in form, coming off the back of their recent win over Wolves. It also lifts them above West Ham in the relegation scrap, giving them control of their own destiny with crucial fixtures against Leeds, Chelsea, and Everton still to come.
