A pro-Peter Obi support group, known as the Obidients Movement, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to drop his presidential ambition and throw his weight behind the former Anambra State governor ahead of the 2027 elections.
The appeal was made on Saturday during a mega rally in Umuahia, Abia State, held to mark Mr. Obi’s 64th birthday.
Speaking to journalists, the chairman of the rally’s organising committee,
Chibuzor Obiesili said the group believes Obi remains the best candidate to rescue the country from its current challenges.
“We thank those behind the formation of the coalition. We appeal that the coalition should consider Obi as its presidential ticket because he has the national appeal needed to uproot the ruling APC,” Obiesili said.

He praised Atiku and other opposition leaders working to build a united front against President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid but insisted that stepping aside for Obi would be Atiku’s greatest contribution to Nigeria’s future.
“We plead with Atiku to please step aside for Obi. Atiku has tried his best for Nigeria, but his greatest sacrifice and gift to Nigeria will be to support Obi get the ADC presidential ticket in 2027 so that Nigeria can move forward,” Obiesili added.
The group expressed confidence that with Obi as the flagbearer, the opposition stands a real chance of unseating the incumbent administration in 2027.
