Stop Pressuring Tinubu! Buhari’s Ex-Aide Blasts Otti Over Kanu Plea

Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, publicly challenged Governor Alex Otti of Abia State on Thursday, the 4th of December, 2025,regarding his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu concerning the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Ahmad stressed that President Tinubu is not a court of law or the judiciary, emphasizing that justice cannot be negotiated through private discussions.

Governor Otti visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, the 3rd of December, 2025, to discuss Kanu’s life imprisonment sentence.

Kanu is currently serving his term in the Sokoto Custodial Centre following his conviction by Justice James Omotosho of the Abuja Federal High Court.

Ahmad took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the situation, clarifying the appropriate channels for seeking redress: “President Tinubu is not a court of law and certainly not the judiciary. The best assistance Gov. Otti can offer his convicted brother is to advise him to remain a law-abiding prisoner for now and seek redress through the proper legal channels.”

The former aide reiterated that Nigeria is a nation governed by law, dismissing the notion that a presidential meeting can overturn a court verdict.

“If there are grounds for appeal, let it be taken to the upper courts. Nigeria is governed by law. Justice is not negotiated in private meetings, nor reversed by presidential courtesy.”

Ahmad firmly concluded that the legal system is the only place where the conviction can be challenged: “The courtroom remains the only place where convictions are tested and overturned.”
