The newly elected National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged Presidential Muhammadu Buhari to personally meet with the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to solve ongoing strike action.
NANS also pleaded with the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to step up his efforts in order to satisfy the UNESCO benchmark that suggests developing countries devote 26 percent of their yearly budgets to education.
The newly elected president of the association, Comrade Umar Barambu, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja.
NANS also called on the president to immediately sack the present ‘non-performing’ service chiefs with a view towards overhauling and rejigging the entire security formation of the country.
The student body also advised Buhari to bring on board capable and digital hands with experience and capacity to stem the tide of insecurity in the country.
“The Federal Government should also proffer a workable and solution to address incessant clashes between farmers and herders across the country.
Barambu, a student of Economics and Development Studies of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria was over the weekend officially declared NANS President at the old parade ground in Abuja.
He also advised lecturers involved in the business of Sex for Marks to desist from their nefarious activities and repent without further delay, adding that Nigerian Student would not hesitate to expose them and make them face the full wrath of the law.
According to him “the congress commended the large turn-out of students who registered across the country during the just concluded voters registration exercise by INEC.
The congress call on all students who registered to ensure they collect their Permanent Voter’s Card, as and when due.Â
The congress further admonished all registered students to ensure they participate in the 2023 general election process and elects credible candidates during the elections at all levels in order to bring about good leaders that will provide dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
