Super Falcons Crush Zambia 5-0 in WAFCON Semis

Nigeria’s Super Falcons roared into the semi-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a commanding 5-0 victory over the Zambian Copa Queens in a one-sided quarter-final clash on Friday.

The rout began almost immediately, as Osinachi Ohale found the net just two minutes into the game, setting the tone for what became a dominant Nigerian performance at the Stade Olympique.

The second goal came in the 33rd minute through Gift Okoronkwo, who converted a slick pass into the box, doubling Nigeria’s lead and leaving the Zambian defense in disarray.

Just before halftime, striker Chinwendu Ihezuo made it 3-0 in the 45th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to calmly slot the ball past the goalkeeper.

Zambia showed glimpses of fight in the second half, but the Super Falcons’ backline, marshaled by an organized defense, held firm. Then came Demehin Oluwatosin, who added Nigeria’s fourth in the 68th minute with a powerful header from a corner kick.

With seconds left on the clock, substitute Folasade Ijamilusi put the icing on the cake, scoring in the “90+1 minute” to seal the emphatic win.

The five-goal triumph not only sends Nigeria into the semi-finals in style but also reinforces their status as tournament favorites as they chase a record-extending WAFCON title.
