Super Falcons Win 10th WAFCON Title in Thrilling Comeback

For the 10th time, the Super Falcons of Nigeria have been crowned champions of Africa — and they did it in the most dramatic fashion imaginable.

Facing hosts Morocco in a pulsating Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final, Nigeria came from two goals down to snatch a sensational 3-2 victory, reaffirming their place as the most successful women’s football team in African history.

Morocco started strong in front of a packed home crowd, with Ghizlane Chebbak striking in the 13th minute and Sanaâ Mssoudy doubling the lead in the 24th. By halftime, the Super Falcons looked rattled — down 2-0 and struggling to find rhythm.

But true champions don’t fold — they rise.

In the second half, Nigeria roared back. Esther Okoronkwo ignited the fightback in the 64th minute with a clinical finish. Just seven minutes later, Jennifer Ijamilusi powered in another goal to draw level.

With the clock ticking down, it was Toni Payne’s dazzling footwork that set up Nicole Echigini in the 88th minute, whose strike sent the Falcons and their fans into raptures.

The final whistle confirmed it: Nigeria are queens of the continent once more.

“This team never gives up,” said head coach Randy Waldrum. “They showed the heart of champions. This is history, and they earned every bit of it.”

The victory not only secures their 10th title but also serves as a reminder: the Super Falcons don’t just win — they rise, fight, and conquer.
