The Supreme Court has overturned the rulings of the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court that removed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A five-member panel of the apex court on Friday, March 21, ruled that the matter was an internal affair of the party and, therefore, not subject to judicial intervention.

Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Jamilu Tukur struck out the Federal High Court’s October 2024 decision and set aside the majority ruling of the Court of Appeal, which had affirmed Anyanwu’s removal in December.
Instead, the Supreme Court upheld the minority judgment of appellate court Justice Ekanem, who had ruled that the lower court lacked jurisdiction over the case.
Furthermore, the court held that the plaintiff, Aniagu Emmanuel, had no legal standing to file the suit since he failed to demonstrate how he was personally affected by Anyanwu’s position as PDP National Secretary.
