Sura Dumps APC, Eyes ADC Ticket For 2027

Barely two days after leaving the All Progressives Congress, former Plateau governorship aspirant, Brigadier General John Sura (retd), has finalised plans to join the African Democratic Congress as he sets his sights on the 2027 governorship race.

Sura, from Panyam Ward in Mangu Local Government Area, the same area as Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, had moved to the APC just a year ago after exiting the Peoples Democratic Party.

In a resignation letter dated the 21st of March, 2026, addressed to the APC chairman in Panyam Ward, he confirmed his decision to quit the party with immediate effect and expressed appreciation for the support he received during his time there.

Addressing journalists in Jos on Tuesday, the 24th of March l, 2026, Sura blamed poor leadership for his exit, stating that Plateau State requires a change in leadership in 2027 to address insecurity and improve its economic direction.

“The APC-led administration has done little to address the security challenges confronting the state.
The governor has a responsibility in this regard, just as the federal government does,” he said.

He explained that his decision goes beyond personal ambition, saying it is also aimed at reshaping public mindset across Plateau and the country.

“In a few days, I will come up with multiple reasons for my resignation from the APC. However, my main purpose is to leave an impactful legacy for our generation. I have the interest, and by the grace of God, I believe I will contest it.

“At the moment, it is quite unfortunate that no one is contesting against Mutfwang on the platform of the APC, and this is a dangerous situation.

“I want to carry the people’s empathy and the passion to serve. I will definitely throw my hat into the ring,” he declared.

Sura also rejected claims that ongoing defections into the APC across the country would ensure the party’s success in 2027, insisting that voters will determine the outcome.
