Suspected Herders Kill Several in Taraba Midnight Attack

Several residents of Munga Lalau and Munga Doso in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State were killed in the early hours of Friday, May 23, after gunmen stormed the communities in a deadly midnight attack.

The assailants, believed to be armed herders, also torched residential buildings, leaving survivors devastated and homeless.

Reacting to the violence, Governor Agbu Kefas condemned the incident, calling it “horrendous and unacceptable.”

According to a statement from his media aide, Emmanuel Bello, the governor vowed that those responsible “would suffer great repercussions.”

“Dr. Kefas also reiterated his commitment to continue to secure the state from external attacks and other forms of aggression,” the statement read.

“Consequently, Dr. Kefas stressed the need for greater collaboration between the people and security forces, especially in the areas of vigilance and sensitive information sharing.

“The governor assured the state of his administration’s resolve to continue prioritising security above anything else, noting that the safety of the citizenry remains his main job.

“The governor further noted that all necessary measures have been put in place to nip the escalation of hostilities and to bring all troublemakers to justice.”

Friday’s incident adds to a series of attacks that have rocked Karim-Lamido LGA in recent weeks.

Just days earlier, three people were killed in Bandawa community following the murder of a farmer by suspected herders on his farmland.
