Suspected Herdsmen Kill 13, Leave Several Missing In Benue Attack

At least 13 people have been confirmed dead, while several others remain missing following a deadly attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Efeyi community in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The assailants reportedly stormed the community on Tuesday, opening fire on residents and causing widespread panic as people fled for safety.

Local sources said 13 bodies have so far been recovered from the affected area, while search efforts are continuing to locate other residents who are yet to be accounted for.

The full extent of the casualties remains unclear as authorities continue to assess the aftermath of the attack.

When contacted for confirmation, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, Superintendent Edet Udeme, said she was yet to receive complete details of the incident but would provide an update after obtaining more information.

The latest attack adds to the growing wave of insecurity in parts of Benue State, where recurring clashes and attacks linked to suspected armed herders have claimed numerous lives and displaced thousands of residents in recent years.

Security agencies are expected to intensify efforts to restore calm in the affected community as investigations into the incident continue.
