Former Chelsea and Brighton manager, Graham Potter, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Sweden men’s national football team, the Swedish Football Association announced on Monday.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Potter signed a short-term contract running until March 2026, with the primary goal of guiding Sweden through their World Cup qualification campaign.
He replaces Jon Dahl Tomasson, who was dismissed earlier this month following Sweden’s poor start to World Cup qualifying. The team currently sits bottom of Group B with just one point from four matches.
Potter’s appointment marks a return to familiar territory, as the Englishman began his managerial career in Sweden with Östersunds FK. During his seven-year spell, he led the modest club from the country’s fourth division to the Allsvenskan and into European competition, earning widespread recognition for his tactical innovation and team-building ability.

The 50-year-old later moved to England, where he managed Swansea City, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Chelsea. His most recent job was with West Ham United, who relieved him of his duties earlier this season after a run of disappointing results.
The Swedish FA expressed confidence that Potter’s experience and familiarity with Swedish football would help rejuvenate the national team as they aim to revive their World Cup qualification hopes.
