A fire outbreak on Wednesday razed a residential building at Kagarawal Quarters, opposite the District Head’s residence in Gombe, destroying property estimated at ₦10 million.
The incident occurred within the operational coverage of the ATM Fire Operations Base, prompting a rapid response from the Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command.
Firefighters, led by Assistant Superintendent of Fire (ASF) Waziri James Anthony, were deployed to the scene following a distress call.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASF Bashir Mu’azu, the team arrived promptly and succeeded in containing the blaze before it could spread to adjoining structures.
“Our officers responded swiftly to the distress call and were able to contain the inferno before it escalated into a major disaster,” Mu’azu said. “Through timely intervention, we successfully salvaged valuables and prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining structures.”
While no casualties were reported at the time of filing this report, residents of the affected building were left counting their losses as household property and personal belongings were consumed by the flames.
Mu’azu commended the professionalism and courage of the firefighters, noting that their quick action significantly reduced the scale of destruction in the densely populated area.

The Command used the incident to reiterate its call for heightened fire safety awareness among residents, urging the public to adopt preventive measures and promptly report any outbreak to emergency responders.
“We call on members of the public to always take proactive safety measures and promptly alert the Fire Service at the first sign of any outbreak,” he added.
The incident comes weeks after a similar fire in January destroyed at least 28 apartments in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, highlighting ongoing concerns about residential fire safety across the country.
Authorities say investigations into the cause of the Gombe fire are ongoing.
