A commercial dispatch rider was crushed to death by a fully loaded tanker along Kodesho Road, Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
The crash occurred around noon opposite MRS Filling Station, inward Awolowo Way and Oba Akran, along the Maryland-Ikeja axis.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the tanker, with registration number T-19089 LA, was carrying 33,000 litres of groundnut oil when it struck the rider, who died instantly.
The agency said the driver attempted to flee without assisting the victim or reporting the accident but was pursued and intercepted by LASTMA officials acting on a distress alert.

The driver and tanker were subsequently handed over to the State Traffic Department of the Area F Police Command, Ikeja, for investigation and possible prosecution, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki said.
LASTMA officers secured the scene and managed traffic during the evacuation operation.
The incident comes less than four months after another dispatch rider was killed in a collision involving a fully loaded diesel tanker under the Cele Bridge corridor of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway on March 25, 2026. The tanker driver in that case also fled the scene.
Bakare-Oki described the latest crash as both “heartbreaking and avoidable” and urged operators of tankers and other heavy-duty vehicles to drive cautiously and obey traffic regulations.
He warned that reckless driving, excessive speed and fleeing accident scenes were serious offences, and urged residents to report traffic emergencies through LASTMA’s toll-free line, 3367.
