Minister of State for Finance designate, Taiwo Oyedele, has stated that at least 12 states have enacted the Tax Harmonisation Law, a central element of the Federal Government’s tax reform agenda.
Oyedele made this disclosure on Wednesday, the 4th of March, 2026, during the graduation ceremony for the MTN Foundation’s Young Innovators and Entrepreneurs Training Initiative at the Continental Hotel in Abuja.
He added that 13 more states have submitted the law to their State Houses of Assembly for consideration, while several others are at different stages of implementation.

Oyedele emphasized the goals of President Tinubu’s tax reforms: modernizing Nigeria’s fiscal system to support businesses, protect vulnerable groups, and drive economic growth.
Reports indicate that Nigeria’s 2026 tax reforms, signed into law in June 2025, introduce major changes, including a ₦800,000 annual tax-free threshold for individuals, a 20% rent deduction, and 0% VAT on essential items.
