Tenerife Striker Jesús de Miguel Dies After On-Field Collision

CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda has died aged 30 after sustaining critical injuries in a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a Spanish second-division match.

Tenerife confirmed his death on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. local time, a day after the incident during their LaLiga Hypermotion fixture at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium.

The collision occurred in the closing stages of Monday’s encounter, with the score tied at 2-2. De Miguel was chasing a long ball when Owono advanced from his goal to challenge for possession, striking the forward with his knee.

The Tenerife player collapsed and received emergency treatment before being taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.

He reportedly suffered cardiac arrest but was resuscitated and admitted to intensive care. His neurological condition deteriorated overnight, and he died the following morning.

The referee abandoned the match in the 108th minute to facilitate medical attention, while Owono received a straight red card following the collision.

In its announcement, Tenerife expressed grief over the loss and extended condolences to De Miguel’s family, teammates and supporters. His family also thanked those who offered support and requested privacy during their bereavement.

The tragedy prompted tributes from across Spanish football, including Real Madrid and Barcelona. The Royal Spanish Football Federation also postponed Tuesday’s scheduled Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina fixtures as a mark of respect.

Born in Madrid in 1996, De Miguel began his professional career with Leganés B in 2015 before representing several clubs in Spain’s lower divisions. He joined Tenerife from Castellón ahead of the 2025-26 season and scored 11 league goals during the campaign.

His death has revived memories of another fatal incident in Spanish football in September 2025, when 19-year-old goalkeeper Raúl Ramírez died following a collision with an opponent during a fifth-tier match between CD Colindres and CD Revilla.

Ramírez suffered a serious head injury and cardiac arrest during the encounter before dying on September 29. His death prompted the Cantabrian Football Federation to declare three days of mourning.

The two incidents have renewed attention to the dangers of serious on-field collisions and their potentially devastating consequences for players and their families.
