Terror Strikes Kebbi: 16 Killed as Suspected Lakurawa Bandits Invade Villages

Tragedy struck in Kebbi State over the weekend as suspected Lakurawa terrorists launched a deadly attack on two villages—Tungan Taura and Tungan Ladan—located in Augie Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafiu Abubakar, the assailants stormed the communities on Saturday, April 6, at about 6:00 pm, in large numbers.

The armed group reportedly rustled an undisclosed number of cattle and engaged in a violent clash with residents, resulting in the death of 16 people.

“The attackers arrived in large numbers, rustled an unspecified number of cattle, and engaged in a deadly confrontation with community members, which led to the tragic loss of sixteen lives,” Abubakar stated.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi, Bello Sani, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical teams—including personnel from the police, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups—to restore calm and secure the area.

“Our resolve to rid Kebbi State of banditry and other violent crimes remains firm. We are deploying all available resources to ensure that the perpetrators of this senseless act are brought to justice,” Sani was quoted as saying.

The police also confirmed that normalcy has now returned to the affected villages, with a full-scale investigation currently underway to track down the attackers.
