Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Tuesday, reportedly invaded Anguwar Kwankwashe of Suleja, abducting seven residents of the community.
It was gathered that nine persons were earlier abducted but two fled after being led to the bush.
A resident named Shehu Abdulkadir, told First News that the bandits came into the area around 1:35 am, and that they invaded houses and a nearby hotel.
According to him, they split themselves into groups to attack homes for them to take away abducted residents.
“It was even the sounds of their gunshots that woke me up. I walked quietly to check through the window and discovered that they were kidnappers, and some of them even dressed like soldiers,” Abdulkadir recalled.
He, however, added that the kidnappers invaded a hotel in the area and abducted woman and man.
A vigilante in the area, who craved anonymity, said he immediately informed men of the ‘C’ Police Division, adding that he heard the sound of the sporadic gunshots in the area.
He, however, said the vigilantes mobilised to join the police from the C division to engage the kidnappers in a shootout, and that unfortunately, the hoodlums succeeded in going away with their human loot.
When contacted, spokesman of Niger Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, said he had not been briefed about it.
