Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence nominee and former Chief of Defence Staff, has offered a clear explanation for why terrorists consistently prioritize Nigeria as a primary target: the perception of the nation’s wealth.
Speaking during his screening at the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, the 3rd of December, 2025, Musa emphasized that the ultimate objective of extremist groups, regardless of where they currently operate, is to gain entry into Nigeria.
He stated: “The terrorists that we’re dealing with think Nigeria is so rich that when they come to Nigeria, they can make it.”
The General stressed the urgent need for the country to take action to secure its extensive borders against this influx of motivated extremists.
Musa added that since terrorists view Nigeria as a lucrative target, “So, anything they are doing anywhere, their target end is to come into Nigeria, and that’s why it’s important that we must make sure that we secure our borders and deny them entry.”

He concluded by outlining the necessary strategy for domestic security, confirming a firm stance against collaboration: “And then those ones that are within we’re able to take them out. There will be zero policy on anything terrorism.”
It was reported that the Senate commenced the screening of Musa as the new Minister of Defence on Wednesday, at the National Assembly, following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu.
If confirmed, General Musa will replace Mohammed Badaru, who had previously resigned from the position.
