Since late January, measles cases in Texas have soared to 597, with 36 new infections added since the 15th of April, 2025.
The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed the spike on the 18th of April, 2025, raising fresh concerns across the state.
West Texas remains the hardest hit. At least 30 of those infected are believed to be actively contagious, as their rash appeared within the past week about 4% of all confirmed cases.
Earlier in the week, the department logged 561 infections.

In response, the federal government deployed seven health workers to assist the state in containing the spread of the childhood disease.
Hospitalizations are up, now at 62. Two children from the outbreak zone have died, both of school age.
With the virus known for its rapid transmission, the department warns that more cases are likely, not just in the outbreak zone but in nearby communities too.
