‘Thread with Caution,’ Advocate Warns Regina Daniels’ Family Over Rift with Senator Nwoko

A family advocate, Ogbuefi Victor Omezi, has cautioned Rita Daniels, mother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, and other members of the Daniels family to “thread with caution” in their public handling of the ongoing marital rift between Regina and her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.

Omezi, in a statement from the Diaspora on Thursday, said the unfolding drama involving the Delta North senator and his wife had assumed a worrying dimension, attracting widespread commentary and media attention that could worsen tensions within the family.

He described the situation as “complex,” saying it touches on sensitive issues of personal relationships, public perception, and responsible media coverage.

According to him, Senator Nwoko’s emphasis on “rehabilitating” his wife, Regina, underscores a deep concern for her mental and emotional well-being amid growing public scrutiny, which he said calls for understanding rather than condemnation.

Omezi also referenced claims by Regina’s mother that she provided $50,000 (about ₦72 million) to support Nwoko’s 2023 Senate campaign — an allegation he said had further complicated the matter.

“While it is commendable for a spouse to support her partner, the nature and source of such financial support can easily attract public speculation and backlash,” Omezi noted. “Public figures must always maintain a delicate balance between private life and public responsibility.”

He accused sections of the media of sensationalising the dispute, saying exaggerated or misleading reports could distort facts and inflict reputational damage.

“The media’s role in escalating this narrative cannot be overstated. Sensational reporting has turned a private family matter into a public spectacle,” he said.

Omezi stressed that such misinformation could erode public trust and distract the senator from his legislative duties. He urged all parties involved to prioritise healing and constructive dialogue.

“Given the scale of misinformation being peddled and the potential damage to the office and reputation of Senator Ned Nwoko, it is necessary to call Regina Daniels and her mother to order,” he stated.

Omezi described the senator as “a loving husband and a polygamist with no record of domestic violence,” noting that Nwoko’s foundation has long championed women’s rights and the fight against domestic abuse.

He also dismissed claims that Nwoko’s late son, Tarik, died from drug use, insisting the autopsy showed he suffered a heart failure in his sleep.

“It’s unfortunate that, in seeking public sympathy, the Daniels family spread falsehoods about a grieving father. Such a blatant lie, devoid of empathy or decency, is unacceptable,” Omezi said.

He accused Regina and her mother of exhibiting “brazen ingratitude” toward the senator, who, according to him, “gave them comfort, social visibility, and respectability in Nigeria and beyond.”

“Regina and her mother should talk less and stay away from controversy. The family needs professional mediation. Too much mud has already been splashed, and it will take strong effort to sanitize the media space,” he warned.

Omezi, therefore, appealed to both parties to sheathe their swords and embrace peace, describing the issue as one that “demands maturity, caution, and compassion, not public warfare.”
