Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola confirmed on Friday that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident: welder Oladokun Johnson; truck driver Azeez Salami; and truck owner Olaleye Kamaldeen.

Jonathan’s father, Mr. Emmanuel Abah, reported the incident to the Ifo Divisional Police Headquarters around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday after receiving information about his son’s electrocution from both Salami and Jonathan’s master. Investigation revealed that Johnson was working on a container with a welding machine featuring an exposed live wire. During this time, Kamaldeen arrived with an Iveco truck (Reg. No. T 7146 LA, Lagos) accompanied by a minibus carrying ten truck rims. As Salami, Kamaldeen, and Jonathan were offloading the rims, one rim made contact with the exposed wire, resulting in Jonathan’s instant electrocution.

The police have secured the welding machine and exposed wire as evidence. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution as authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding this fatal incident.
