Three Dead As Gunmen Ambush Plateau Herders

Gunmen killed three herders on Thursday night, February 19, along the Dorowa-Jong road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The victims were returning home from Qur’an Tafsir in Dorowa community around 7:30 pm when they were ambushed. One of the victims was reportedly decapitated during the attack.

Ibrahim Babayo, Plateau State chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), condemned the incident and called for swift government action.

He alleged that members of the Berom community were responsible but urged calm while security agencies investigate.

Solomon Mwantiri, National President of the Berom Youths Moulders Association, denied any involvement by his community, describing the accusation as unwarranted.

Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, confirmed that security forces were mobilized after receiving information around 11 pm on Thursday.

He said the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and the commander of Operation Enduring Peace expressed concern over the attack and vowed to track the perpetrators. Investigations are ongoing.
